Republican House Speaker John Boehner pledged Wednesday to seek a compromise with newly re-elected President Barack Obama on the looming “fiscal cliff,” sparking hopes of bipartisian cooperation — especially, Boehner said, if Obama simply adopts vanquished challenger Mitt Romney’s plan.

Orange fingers: Wall Street on Wednesday greeted Obama’s re-election with the steepest stock sell-off so far this year. In a somewhat related development, Smith &Wesson’s share price climbed nearly 10 percent amid speculation that Obama’s second term might stimulate firearm sales.
The success of the marijuana legalization measures, meanwhile, should stimulate sales of Nacho Cheese Doritos.
Munchies: Speaking of snack food, Taco Bell is unveiling a new late-night menu of sweet and savory snacks aimed at young adults who, in the words of a company marketing executive, operate “on a timeless eating schedule.”
And if they keep on regularly scarfing things like Taco Bell’s “Loaded Griller” — a baked potato wrapped in a tortilla — they’ll be on a timeless insulin-injection schedule before too long.
