Two Lowell Elementary students were honored last week for their award-winning fire-safety poster designs.

You can check out the posters made by second grader Issabella Hsu and fourth grader Jessica Jefferson to the right.

The poster contest was hosted by the Everett Fire Department as part of firefighters' efforts to teach children how to prevent fires and escape house fires when they do happen, city spokeswoman Kate Reardon said.

The winning posters demonstrated a solid understanding of fire safety, but also were creative and artistic, Reardon said.
