CARBONADO — Searchers in Pierce County have located the body of a young Auburn man whose friend hiked for hours to get help after their truck rolled multiple times down a hill at a remote off-road vehicle park near Mount Rainier.
The 21-year-old survivor told authorities the two had been driving around the park when the truck went down a steep embankment. KIRO-TV reported that the survivor said his 23-year-old friend was unresponsive when he left to get help. He said he walked for miles before reaching the town of Carbonado.
KOMO-TV reported the friend helped guide an East Pierce Fire &Rescue crew back to the crash site on Thursday. They followed a trail of blood from the vehicle to the victim’s body.
Pierce County sheriff’s spokesman Ed Troyer said it appears the victim managed to make his way some distance before dying. He was not immediately identified.
