A Wall of Thanks, the presentation of the colors, a model ship display and tributes that only families and little kids can give are all part of the festivities at Imagine Children’s Museum on Monday, Veterans Day.

The museum is normally closed on Mondays but will be open from 10 a.m to 5 p.m. this year in honor of Veterans Day.

Military veterans will be offered free admission; for other visitors, Veterans Day activities are included in the $9 admission price.

The oldest veteran will receive a free Grandparent Membership to the museum. This membership includes unlimited admission for one year for grandparents and their grandchildren.

The Wall of Thanks could be the highlight for visitors who can design a tribute “brick” for the wall in honor or memory of a veteran. About 1,000 bricks will be created and displayed on the exterior wall of the museum along Wall Street.

Model ships, including several built from scratch, will be on display courtesy of Northwest R.C. Ship Modelers. The ships include a 5-foot combat model World War II Coast Guard cutter and a World War II Navy patrol torpedo boat, according to press material.

Visitors won’t want to miss the 1 p.m. veterans tribute held in the new lodge area of the museum. The Everett High School NJROTC color guard will present the colors. Elise Dahlberg, age 10, will present a special music tribute as well.

Also, special guest Nancy Erickson, the 2012 winner of the Seattle-Kobe Female Jazz Vocalist competition, will sing the national anthem.

The museum is planning a Veterans Day camp for elementary-age children from 1 to 3 p.m. called Crack the Case: The Case of the Flying Eagle.

This is a three-hour interactive mystery where these young “detectives” investigate why the eagle — psst, it’s an eagle statue — that resides on the museum’s roof leaves its perch every Veterans Day. While having fun, the detectives will learn about the ways the military serves our country. Registration is required; the cost is $35 for members and $40 for nonmembers.
