Providence chief exec to take job in Detroit

Dave Brooks, who has been chief executive at Providence Regional Medical Center Everett for the past five years, is leaving the hospital in early January.
Brooks, 51, has been selected as president of St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, part of Ascension Health, a nonprofit Catholic organization.
Brooks said the decision to leave the Everett hospital was "probably the hardest professional decision I've made."
Both Brooks and his wife grew up in Detroit and have family there. "It's time to go home and have the kids closer to the majority of their family as well," Brooks said.
Brooks came to the Everett hospital in 2004 as its chief operating officer. He was appointed the hospital's chief executive, replacing Gail Larson, in 2007.
During his tenure, the hospital planned the opening of a new $460 million medical tower which opened last June, the biggest expansion in its history.
The hospital and the associated Providence Medical Group clinics have a workforce of 3,500 employees, ranking it as one of Snohomish County's largest employers.
Providence's regional organization will begin work in the next few weeks to select a new chief executive.
