Trinity Lutheran soccer team headed to West Regional
The Eagles, seeded fourth, play top-seeded Fresno Pacific at 7 p.m. Thursday in Fresno, Calif. The winner advances to the regional title game on Saturday against either second-seeded Azusa Pacific or No. 3 California Baptist.
The regional champion qualifies for the NCCAA national championships, scheduled for Nov. 28-Dec. 1 in Kissimmee, Fla.
Trinity Lutheran finished the regular season with a 13-6-1 record, including eight shutouts. Freshman goalkeeper Daniel Nedeau from Shorewood High School finished third in the NCCAA in goals against average. Midfielder Cesar Gonzalez, a junior from Los Angeles, finished third in the NCCAA with 15 assists.
Trinity Lutheran posted its strong record despite playing 17 of its 20 games on the road.
"For a small third-year program to be competing against colleges with thousands of students and athletic budgets far greater than ours, the accomplishments of our team this season have been nothing short of amazing," head coach George Dremousis in a press release.
Fresno Pacific comes into Thursday's game with 14-4-0 record.
