LackBerry

Just in time for Christmas. In 2013: Once called 'CrackBerry' because it was a seemingly indispensable smartphone, Research in Motion's BlackBerry is now a distant also-ran. RIM now is holding out hope that its new BlackBerry 10 and its software, to be unveiled Jan. 30 and then available in March, will save the company (Page A6).

No rush there, RIM. Apple should only be up to the iPhone 7 or 8 by then.

Should have used the disappearing ink: Details continue to trickle out regarding the affair between former CIA Director David Petraeus and his biographer and paramour Paula Broadwell. For example, the pair attempted to prevent a trail of emails by leaving messages in the drafts folder of their email accounts, which they could then open and read without sending, a trick used by terrorists and teenagers alike (Page A3).

Apparently, the CIA's research and development people were still working out the bugs on Petraeus' secret decoder ring.

Baby, you can drive my car: With a decline in the number of men, 25 to 29, who are licensed to drive, women now outnumber men behind the wheel, according to a transportation research group (Page A2).

Mom, that was your son on the phone, and he needs a ride to work.
