Man who died in Everett fire identified

EVERETT -- A man found dead after a three-alarm fire in downtown Everett on Thursday night has been identified as Michael D. Beard, 61, of Everett.

Beard died from smoke inhalation, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office. His death was ruled an accident.

The fire was reported about 9:30 p.m. Thursday at the historic McCrossen Building, just west of Comcast Arena on Hewitt Avenue.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. The building was destroyed, with a damage estimate at $1 million as of Tuesday.

The city also has activated a telephone line, 425-257-7011, for people with questions about the fire.
