SEATTLE — The Seattle Sounders aren’t the only team in this soccer-mad city playing in the postseason.
The University of Washington men’s soccer team learned Monday that it had earned the program’s first bid to the NCAA tournament since 2007. The Huskies (12-4-3) will host Air Force in a first-round game Thursday at 7 p.m. at the UW soccer complex.
Second-year coach Jamie Clark leads the 24th-ranked Huskies into the 48-team tournament after UW finished second in the Pacific-12 Conference, one point behind UCLA. The Bruins and Huskies are the only Pac-12 representatives in this year’s NCAA tourney.
“It’s fantastic to host. Our field is tough to play on. Hopefully we get a good crowd and good atmosphere,” senior Ben Fisk said in a press release put out through the UW athletic department.
The winner of Thursday’s game between UW and Air Force will play at 12th-ranked Creighton on Sunday.
Note:
The University of Washington will host the second and third rounds of the 2015 NCAA Men’s Basketball tournament at Key Arena, the NCAA announced on Monday. It will be Seattle’s 16th opportunity to host the tournament, but the first since 2004.
