Everett: Lecture series to begin

Trinity Lutheran College is set to start a free lecture series Monday.

The new "Leadership Lecture Series: Changing and Shaping Culture" is planned to begin at 7 p.m. with guest speaker Rick Steves, who operates a European travel business in Edmonds.

Lake Stevens: Budget talks

Snohomish County Fire District 8 in Lake Stevens plans a budget discussion at the commissioners meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday in the board room at district headquarters, 1825 S. Lake Stevens Road.

The meeting will cover draft budgets for 2013, and the public is welcome to attend and comment.

When the final budget is approved, it will be at www.lsfire.org/Publications/Plans&Reports.

Terrace: Sign up for alerts

Neighbors and businesses within Mountlake Terrace are reminded to sign up for mobile and email emergency alerts as winter approaches.

The alerts are organized by the city and other emergency response groups. Warnings include hazardous weather conditions.

Mukilteo: Help with homework

The Mukilteo Library is hosting "Mission Good Grades" 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday to provide information about using library resources to do homework easily and successfully. Here's the schedule:

11 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m.: Librarians demonstrate free homework tools. Collect a prize by visiting each research station. Finish all the stations and enter to win a Kindle and $250 for your school.

Noon: Organize Kids from Diapers to Driving -- Professional organizer Monika Kristofferson shares tools and tips.

2 to 3 p.m.: Mad Science -- An interactive show demonstrates how science is part of our everyday lives.

Oso: Talk by trail coalition planned

The Centennial Trail Coalition of Snohomish County plans a history talk by Bob Heirman, author of "A Railroad Runs Through It: Reflections from Everett to Darrington," at 6:30 tonight at the Oso Firehall, 21824 Highway 530.
