“Waterworks 2012”: The Northwest Watercolor Society is presenting its 21st annual Waterworks 2012 Membership Exhibition through Nov. 28 at Kaewyn Gallery, 10101 Main St., Bothell; gallery hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday; 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. “Waterworks” is an annual exhibition of works exclusively by NWWS members, showcasing the best work of the membership, featuring 55 paintings from 181 entries.

Edmonds artist Karen Simonson is showing mixed media paintings through mid December; Simonson studied with master painter Alden Mason. Founded in 1977 by a group of artists, Artech is an art handling and collection management company. Artech regularly helps with the art installations at local museums, public spaces, and private collections. Exhibit is up through Dec. 31.

The Women Painters of Washington has attracted nationally and internationally recognized artists for more than 80 years.

Admission $7 to $13, free ages 12 and under, first Thursdays free for all. “Elles: Women Artists from the Centre Pompidou, Paris and Elles: SAM – Singular Works by Seminal Women Artists; the exhibit runs through Jan. 15 and SAM will present a series of landmark exhibitions and programs showcasing the creative and enduring ambition of women artists of the 20th and 21st centuries. SAM is the only U.S. venue for this display of more than 130 works of art by 75 forward-thinking women artists from 1909 to 2007, including Sonia Delaunay, Frida Kahlo, Dora Maar, Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman and the Guerrilla Girls.

Admission $7 and $5, free ages 12 and under. “Many Arrows from Rama’s Bow: Paintings of the Ramayana” includes 44 works of art from the 16th through the 20th centuries that illustrate one of India’s epic periods. At the same time, “Women’s Paintings from the Land of Sita” explores the work of women who transformed a history of domestic painting into works created for a growing art market. Both exhibitions are on view through Dec. 2.
