50 years ago (1962)
Grace Harmon of Snohomish was presented a pin denoting 25 years of volunteer service to the Red Cross at the annual meeting of Snohomish and Island County Chapter. Making the presentation was Wally Young, chapter president.
The paper carried advertisements for two new Everett housing districts. One was Bill Hulbert’s Glenhaven off Mukilteo Boulevard. The other was O’Connor &Cronin’s Imperial Hills on Farmer Road (Seventh Avenue) south of Emerson and St. Mary Magdalen schools.
25 years ago (1987)
The Ocean Odyssey was back to work. Yesterday tug boats towed the big oil-drilling platform around the southern tip of Whidbey Island toward the open waters of the Pacific Ocean. The rig was reassigned after spending nearly two years on the waterfront. Anyone driving west on Pacific Avenue had a clear view of it.
In The Herald was a Mukilteo Stock Exchange certificate. It was 10 shares of Seahorse Restaurant stock. Customers could get even with the market by presenting the certificate to one of the restaurant’s traders (wait staff) and receive up to $10 off one dinner entree when ordering a second dinner of equal or greater value.
