Lowell crash isn't Everett man's first brush with law

EVERETT -- An Everett man involved in a serious injury accident in the Lowell neighborhood of Everett Thursday morning was awaiting sentencing for driving under the influence of methamphetamine.
The man, 27, was booked into Snohomish County Jail for investigation of vehicular assault. Police believe he was under the influence of drugs at the time of the accident. A judge set bail at $200,000 in Everett District Court on Friday.
The man's driver's license was suspended in August.
The crash happened on a two-lane stretch of road in the 4300 block of South Third Avenue, just south of 41st Street, Everett police officer Aaron Snell said. The speed limit in the area is 30 mph.
The man was northbound in a car that crossed the center line and struck the woman's vehicle, police reported. The woman suffered multiple broken bones, including her leg, hip, hand and ribs. She was being treated at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
Court records show the man was awaiting a prison sentence after pleading guilty to several crimes.
Police arrested him last February when he was found in possession of 185 grams of heroin.
During the arrest, police suspected he was driving under the influence of drugs. A blood test found meth in his system.
He also pleaded guilty to third-degree assault, attempting to elude police and possessing drugs after a 2011 arrest in south Snohomish County.
At the time, police found $3,204 in his pants pocket.
Police after Thursday's crash said the man's eyes were droopy and his speech slurred, according to court papers. An officer trained in recognizing drug use determined the man's ability to drive was impaired. A blood sample was taken.
He has four previous felony drug convictions.
