Ryan Murray has a shoulder injury, plus lineup notes

When it rains, it pours …

Everett will be without its captain, star defenseman Ryan Murray, for an indefinite period as he suffered a shoulder injury during Friday’s 5-0 loss at Victoria.

The way it was explained to me is that Murray collided with a Victoria player, fell awkwardly to the ice, then had the Victoria player fall on top of him. The full extent of the injury won’t be determined until Murray undergoes an MRI after the weekend is over. This could threaten Murray’s availability for Canada for World Juniors.

This is just the latest major blow for the Tips. Everett just lost overage winger Ryan Harrison for an indefinite period because of a knee injury, and winger Joshua Winquist remains sidelined with mononucleosis. It’ll be a stiff challenge going forward for the Tips with so much key personnel out.

Anyway, onto tonight’s lineup notes:

EVERETT

Forward lines:

Soumelidis-Bauml-Petryk

Leedahl-Hayer-Sandhu

Stadnyk-Mappin-Oslanski

Lofthouse-Low-Grayson

Defensive pairings:

Betker-Cox

Starting goalie:

Lotz

Scratches: Winquist, Harrison, Foulk, Murray.

Notes: Everett plays without three of its top players as captain Ryan Murray (shoulder), overage winger Ryan Harrison (knee) and winger Joshua Winquist (mononucleosis) are all out with physical ailments. The Tips welcome defenseman Austin Adam (hand) back to the lineup for the first time since the opening weekend of the season. Center Brayden Low, brought in this week, plays in front of the home fans for the first time.

VANCOUVER

Forward lines:

Kessy-Ast-Sward

Starting goalie:

Scratches: Franson, Tvrdon, Moar, Coyle, Liston.

Notes: Vancouver also has injury issues. The Giants just learned they’d lost winger Marek Tvrdon for the season because of a blood clot. Center Cain Franson (upper body) and goaltender Liam Liston (lower body) are also out injured.
