Super Kid: Taylor Caulk nurses a dream

Q: Why do you think the school district nominated you as a Super Kid?

A: Probably because I'm overly involved in everything (laughing).

Q: Tell me about some of your activities.

A: I'm a cheerleader; this is my third year being on the cheer squad. I'm a senior senator on ASB, and I'm in chamber choir. I'm in the girls ensemble; it's like the highest choir available at our school. There's a boys-and-girls ensemble and an all-girls ensemble.

I'm in the National Honor Society, and I work at Anthony's seafood restaurant in Edmonds -- upstairs, the Home Port.

Q: Among your activities, what's your favorite?

A: My favorite's cheer. All my best friends are on the squad with me. I love competing, I love cheering at games.

We cheer at football, basketball and wrestling. And we do community service. We cheer at a lot of charity races for cancer or Alzheimer's. A few months ago we helped with the Susan G. Komen foundation, and we've helped with a lot of other little things.

Q: What's your GPA?

A: I have a 3.9.

Q: What are your favorite subjects?

A: I love history. My dad raised me with lots of history around me. And I love English.

My dad raised me watching "Band of Brothers" and history films, and somehow he always integrates history into our conversations.

Q: What are your college plans?

A: I hope to attend Azusa Pacific University (in Azusa, Calif.) for nursing. It's a really good private Christian school, which is what we want, and it's pretty good sized -- it's the biggest Christian school on the West Coast. And it's a few minutes away from my family in California, so that'll be nice. My dad lives in California, and my grandparents, some uncles, brothers and sisters.

Q: Why nursing?

A: Ever since I was little I've always known that whatever I do, I would help people. My stepmom's a nurse, so growing up around how much she loves it, it inspires me. I've just kind of been around the medical field my whole life because my grandpa was a neuro-surgical assistant. And I love little kids.

I really want to be a missionary nurse in Africa. That's my goal, but I also want to be a pediatric nurse or a nurse practitioner, which is a step below a doctor.

At Azusa Pacific, they offer living in Africa for a semester for the same tuition as normal college. And I also would want to join maybe Doctors Without Borders or Unicef or one of those organizations.

Q: Anything you'd like to add?

A: I have a really awesome family. They support me a lot with everything.
