2 rescued from Pilchuck Creek after rising water traps them

ARLINGTON -- Two people were rescued from Pilchuck Creek north of Arlington Monday evening after getting stuck in the rising water.
A teenage boy first got into trouble while riding his quad all-terrain vehicle, said Greg Osborne, a battalion chief with the North County Regional Fire Authority. The ATV got surrounded by water near the 24000 block of 13th Avenue NE.
One of the boy's relatives tried to rescue him on a tractor, but the tractor got stuck as well, Osborne said. Someone called 911 for help about 5:10 p.m.
"They stayed with their vehicles. They did the smart thing," Osborne said.
Crews responded from fire departments in north county, Arlington Rural and Silvana. An Arlington Rural hover craft team was able to reach the pair and brought them back to safety about 6:10 p.m. Both were treated at the scene.
Osborne reminds people to be careful around area rivers and creeks now that flooding is being reported.
