Mariners trade Trayvon Robinson for Baltimore infielder Robert Andino

The Mariners announced Tuesday that they have traded outfielder Trayvon Robinson to Baltimore for infielder Robert Andino.

This is hardly a major trade, but it does give the Mariners infield depth they need with Munenori Kawasaki having been released earlier in the offseason. And while Robinson made more than his share of impressive plays in the outfield, he has not been able to hit consistently, and if there is one thing the Mariners don't need more of, it is backup outfielders.

Andino, 28, hit .211 last season with 7 home runs, 13 doubles and 28 RBI in 127 games last season for the Orioles, playing mostly at second base (he also started nine games at third, two at shortstop and two in the outfield).

“The addition of Robert Andino gives us some experienced infield depth with a player who has played multiple positions” Mariners GM Jack Zduriencik said in a press release. “With Robert having Major League and playoff experience and still relatively young, we thought that it made sense to make this trade and let him come in and compete.”

The 25-year-old Robinson started 39 games last season and hit .221 with 3 homers, 12 RBI, 4 doubles and 6 stolen bases.
