Former Snohomish High School and University of Washington basketball player Jon Brockman has signed a contract to play this season for Limoges in the French Pro A basketball league.
Brockman, who spent the last three seasons with Sacramento and Milwaukee of the NBA, announced the signing on his Twitter page: “Another journey begins. Next stop Paris, then on to Limoges.”
Later, following an 11-hour flight to France, he tweeted: “Just arrived in Limoges, France. The only thing on my mind is sleep.”
Brockman, a 2005 Snohomish graduate who played at Washington from 2005-06 to 2008-09, was traded from Milwaukee to Houston in the recent NBA offseason, but failed to make the Rockets’ opening day roster after suffering a severe eye injury in a Sept. 10 workout in Houston.
Brockman had not been cleared to resume basketball when the Rockets opened their training camp or even when the team was starting its preseason schedule. He was waived on Oct. 29, two days before Houston’s regular-season opener.
Limoges is a city of around 140,000 people in central France. It is one of 16 teams in the Pro A, the top pro league in France, and includes four other Americans on its roster — Ty Walker (Wake Forest), Brandon Costner (North Carolina State), Brad Wanamaker (Pittsburgh) and Kyle McAlarney (Notre Dame).
Brockman is joining the team seven games into its 30-game regular-season schedule, which began in early October and continues to late April.
