PENDLETON, Ore. — A 16-year-old 4-H Club member is pushing for a smoke-free Umatilla County Fair.
As a member of the Helix Heart of the County 4-H Club, Jarred Cope spends a lot of time at the fair and camped out near the carnival. The location also is a popular spot for smoke break by carnival workers.
The East Oregonian reported that Cope and five other club members told the Umatilla County Fair Board earlier this week that they want a tobacco-free fair, and want to eliminate their exposure to secondhand smoke at their campers.
Umatilla County Fair Manager Peggy Clough said a decision likely will be made in January.
