Lake Stevens Kiwanis sponsors holiday meals
For many years the Lake Stevens Kiwanis club has sponsored Thanksgiving baskets for more than 20 families. Each family receives a turkey, six bags of groceries and two gallons of milk. Jay’s Market and Albertsons helped with contributions.
More than 40 people helped fill the baskets on Nov. 17. The volunteers included 28 Kiwanis members and five Key Club members from Lake Stevens High School, member Rob Racz said.
Cub Scouts help out at Marysville Cemetery
Beth Opel, family service supervisor at the Marysville Cemetery, got some help for Veterans Day.
Marysville Cub Scout Pack 80 and their siblings placed 250 flags on the graves of veterans in the cemetery.
The flags were donated by the American Legion in Marysville.
Pack 80 leader Lisa Wilcox said the flag placement has become a tradition with the Cub Scouts and their families.
Lynnwood VFW post honors Eagle Scouts
Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1040 of Lynnwood have presented VFW Eagle Scout certificates to three new Eagle scouts from Boy Scout Troop 465.
Honored were Jake Latimer, Ryan McArthur and Ben Pace. They were recognized at the Eagle Scout Court of Honor Nov. 25 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints Stake Center in Lynnwood.
Monroe students gather donations for food bank
Students and staff at Fryelands Elementary School pitched in to help provide Thanksgiving food for clients at the Sky Valley Food Bank.
During the first two weeks of November students collected non-perishable food items and money. They collected 1,900 items weighing 1,718 pounds and also donated nearly $500.
“As always their efforts are greatly appreciated by the volunteers and clients at the food bank, where we provided holiday food for 300 grateful families,” said Neil Watkins, director of the food bank.

Lakewood school bus drivers collect food
Lakewood School District transportation department employees stuffed a bus again this year and donated 4,400 pounds of food and $238 to food banks, said Marlene Rosenbach, the district’s transportation supervisor. The 30 employees met their goal of collecting more food this season, she said.
Last year, school bus drivers and mechanics collected more than 4,000 pounds of food to fill a 40-foot school bus.
Donations were given to the Arlington and Marysville food banks as well as to the Stillaguamish Senior Center food bank.
Stanwood volunteers help at food bank
More than 300 families were served by volunteers who helped distribute Thanksgiving food in the past week at the Stanwood Camano Food Bank.
Among the volunteers were members of the Stanwood High School Honor Society.
Arlington city employees donate to food bank
Arlington’s finance and economic and community development departments contributed $100 for the Arlington Community Food Bank.
