MARYSVILLE -- Marysville Police have arrested two men in connection with the theft of $10,000 in jewelry from a Kmart store Friday afternoon.

Employees of the store, located in the 9600 block of State Ave., said a man came into the store about 3 p.m. and walked back to the jewelry area. He allegedly cut two cables securing a container with the jewelry and fled the store. The suspect met up with a second man, driving a Ford F150 pickup and were seen driving north.

A Marysville officer spotted the truck and attempted to stop it. After initially slowing down, the truck sped off and the officer pursued it. After approximately 2 miles, the officer halted the pursuit because of the dangerous driving of the fleeing suspects.

Officers driving in the area soon spotted the suspect vehicle again. However, the passenger was no longer in the truck. Officers stopped the truck and took the driver, a 51-year-old Everett man, into custody.

Continuing their search for a second suspect, a police officer talked to two people who were working in a nearby shop and gave them a description of the suspect, and that he was wearing all black clothing but was missing one shoe.

A short time later, a man matching that description asked the employees for a ride to Everett.

One of the employees told the suspect he would give him a ride, but that he had to let his girlfriend know and walked out of view of the suspect and then called 911.

Marysville Police, with assistance from Snohomish County Sheriff's deputies, were able to take the Everett man, 29, into custody.

The jewelry was recovered.
