Score high on the Martha Meter this holiday season by adding this festive touch to your cocktail table: Rim the glasses with crushed peppermint.

It's easy, and the peppermint blast goes with many holiday concoctions: chocolate martini, eggnog, even hot chocolate.

First crush the candy: Place candies or canes in a large resealable plastic bag, close the bag and whack with a rolling pin or heavy skillet until coarsely crushed. You could cheat and pulse them in a food processor, but whacking's more fun.

Mix 3 tablespoons sugar and 2 tablespoons water in a small shallow bowl until well blended.

Dip the rim of the glass or cup in the sugar-water mixture, then into the crushed candies to lightly coat.

Use the leftovers to make peppermint bark or to decorate cookies.
