Here's a way to celebrate community and Christmas.

Just like old-timey Christmas celebrations of yore, the city of Everett's "Wintertide" aims to spread the holiday cheer by bringing the community together under a common theme while also offering lots of free activities for the family.

"Wintertide" goes from 4 to 7 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Everett Performing Arts Center, 2710 Wetmore Ave., Everett.

Some of the free activities include craft projects for the kids, a holiday tree-lighting, a bonfire on the plaza, and free hot apple cider, cocoa and cookies.

Families can also take "Wintertide" home with them by creating memories in the free Holiday Fun photo booth.

Entertainment will be provided by the Trinity Lutheran College Concert Choir, Transit Troubadours Men's Quartet, members of the Everett Chorale, the city of Everett Inter-departmental Ensemble, and members of Village Theatre's Kidstage, along with musical scenes from "Alice In Wonderland."

Santa Claus will arrive on the scene at 6 p.m. on a city fire truck, and Everett Mayor Ray Stephanson will welcome him.

Members of the Marine Corps will collect new unwrapped gifts for the Toys for Tots program.

At 6:30 p.m., visitors can watch the 1966 animated movie "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."
