Everett woman charged in espresso stand robbery

EVERETT -- A young Everett woman who ditched drug treatment in June is now accused of using a knife to commit three November espresso stand robberies.

A judge on Monday set bail at $200,000 for McKenzie Tesch, 18, who was charged with the Nov. 20 robbery of the Bigfoot Espresso stand in the 400 block of Everett Mall Way.

A barista told police that a woman with facial piercings handed her a note demanding money and told her that she had a gun. The assailant then pulled a large butcher knife from her jacket, court papers said.

Tesch also is under investigation in the robbery of Stiletto Espresso south of Everett on two separate occasions, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor Kathy Jo Blake said during a Monday bail hearing.

Two people who know the defendant identified her from video surveillance photos from one of the robberies, according to court papers.

One of witnesses told police that Tesch was wearing his jacket during one of the robberies.

The man told police that Tesch borrowed his pickup the night of one of the robberies but he didn't know what she was using it for. After he saw news footage of the suspect, he confronted her and she allegedly admitted to the three robberies, court papers said.

The other witness said the suspect dyed her hair another color after video was released to the media.

When Tesch was arrested, police searched her purse and found a large knife that matched the description of the knife used in all three robberies, court papers said.

Earlier this year, she pleaded guilty to fourth-degree assault after a January confrontation with her boyfriend.

"The victim told police that the respondent was angry at him because he would not give her money to purchase heroin," court papers said.

When she was sentenced in June, she was given the chance to spend part of the detention time in in-patient treatment. Arrangements were made for her to take a Greyhound bus to Spokane, but she left the station without boarding, court papers said.
