Front Porch: Donate to Coats for Kids

Diamond Knot Craft Brewing is starting to collect donations this week for its annual Coats for Kids program to benefit Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County.

Donations will be accepted starting Monday through Dec. 20 at all Diamond Knot locations in Mukilteo and Camano Island. The brewery will match all donations dollar for dollar.

Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County is a private, non-profit organization that provides a safe and secure emergency shelter, while providing services for victims of domestic abuse.



Firearm safety class: The Mountlake Terrace Police Department is hosting a seminar from 6 to 9 p.m. Dec. 10 on "Personal Defense and Firearm Safety," at the Mountlake Terrace Library, 23308 58th Ave W, Mountlake Terrace.

This class was added after the Thursday class became full.

This free course includes home defense, personal safety and firearms safety.

Sgt. Pat Lowe, a 17-year law enforcement veteran and certified firearms instructor, will lead the seminar. Seating is limited.

Keeping teens drug free: On Wednesday, a certified chemical dependency counselor from Youth Eastside Services plans to discuss marijuana and its danger for teens.

The event, which is open to the public, is scheduled from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the North Middle School library, 2514 Rainier Ave. in Everett.

The discussion will include information on drug and alcohol trends and how to improve the chances of raising a drug- and alcohol-free teen.
