Seahawks G James Carpenter out for the season, WR Braylon Edwards waived

For the second time in as many years, James Carpenter's season is ending early. The Seahawks' second-year guard was placed on the reserve/non-football illness list for the remainder of the season, the team announced Tuesday. The team did not say what that non-football illness was.

Carpenter, who suffered a knee injury last season, landing him on injured reserve, battled back from that injury and was able to return ahead of schedule, starting the fourth game of this season. Last year's first-round pick, Carpenter missed two games this year with a concussion, then came out of Sunday's win in Chicago after one series having experienced pain in his surgically-repaired knee.

UpdateTo clarify on the non-football illness classification, that doesn't necessarily mean Carpenter is out for the season because of an illness, but rather if it is an injury, it wasn't an injury specific to a single game.

John Moffitt will likely take over at left guard for Seattle with rookie J.R. Sweezy providing depth at both guard positions.

The Seahawks also waived/injured receiver Braylon Edwards Tuesday, parting ways with the veteran receiver who won a roster spot in training camp. Edwards showed promise as a big-play threat in the preseason, but had a limited impact during the regular season, catching eight passes for 74 yards and one touchdown in 10 games.

Guard Rishaw Johnson was signed off the practice squad, but no other move was announced, meaning that, as of now anyway, the Seahawks have one available roster spot.
