Victim identified in apparent hit and run near Machias

MACHIAS -- A woman who died after apparently being struck by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday near Machias has been identified as Kathryn "Kay" J. Hyde-Donohue, 53, of Lake Stevens.
Snohomish County sheriff's detectives are investigating. They believe they've identified the vehicle involved, but no arrests have been made, sheriff's spokeswoman Shari Ireton said Wednesday.
Hyde-Donohue's body was found about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday near the 4400 block of S. Machias Road between Snohomish and Lake Stevens.
Police at the time were investigating a domestic disturbance at a home about two miles north of there, in the 12700 block of 18th Street SE, near Lake Stevens, Ireton said.
While at the home, detectives found a vehicle with "suspicious marks indicating it had may have been used in a pedestrian hit and run," she said.
Further investigation led them to Hyde-Donohue's body, which investigators believe may have been there since that morning. The vehicle was taken into evidence for processing.
Hyde-Donohue died from head injuries, according to the Snohomish County Medical Examiner's Office. Her death was ruled an accident.
Anyone who was in the area at the time or who may have interacted with Hyde-Donohue in the days before her death is asked to call 425-388-3845.
Police believe she was walking northbound on the east side of the roadway wearing a red winter coat and red baseball cap when she was struck.
