Arlington: Santa Run collects for food bank
The annual Arlington Fire Department Santa Run begins Friday.
For 10 nights in December, Arlington Firefighters Local 3728 escort Santa through Arlington neighborhoods collecting food donations for the Arlington Food Bank, passing out candy canes and spreading holiday cheer.
The firefighters have been doing the Santa Run for more than 20 years.
Last year more than 5,000 pounds of food were collected.

Everett: New play equipment for park
Crews plan to install new playground equipment at Everett’s Walter E. Hall Park between mid-December and mid-January.
The city has authorized $120,000 for the replacement and expansion of the playground at 1226 SW Casino Road.
The City Council on Nov. 28 awarded the work to SiteLines Park &Playground Products of Everett.
The Walter E. Hall Park playground currently consists of a 2,000-square-foot playground for 5- to 12-year-olds.
That equipment will be replaced and a second play area of equal size added for 2- to 5-year-olds.
Skills Center dental clinic taking patients
Students in the dental assisting program at the Sno-Isle Skills Center will get real-life experience in the field through the school’s dental clinic, which is now open for public appointments through April.
The dental work is done by a licensed dentist; students assist. An appointment for a cleaning, an exam and X-rays costs $75, as does an appointment for fillings.
That’s a savings of at least $250, made possible because the patients are helping to educate students, according to Mukilteo School District staff.
The Skills Center is at 9001 Airport Road, Everett.

Campaign against domestic violence
Jacksons Food Stores in Snohomish County again are participating in the annual “Give the Gift of Peace” campaign against domestic violence.
Customers can donate $1 at a time, and the company will match contributions up to $75,000.
The money from Washington stores goes to the Washington State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, a nonprofit.
The campaign runs through Christmas Day.
Stores in Washington have raised more than $94,000 since the campaign started here in 2009, coalition spokeswoman Kelly Starr said.
Mountlake Terrace: Annual tree lighting ceremony Friday
The city plans to hold the annual tree lighting ceremony from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday at Evergreen Playfield, 22205 56th Ave W.
Visible for miles around, the enormous “tree” is actually a frame constructed of more than 1,800 lights placed on top of the city’s water tower.
People should dress warmly and wear boots if the weather is wet.
The event is free, however cash donations will be accepted for the Michelle Ringler Youth Recreation Scholarship Fund, which helps pay registration costs for children at the Mountlake Terrace Recreation Pavilion.
