EVERETT — The Washington Stealth’s final free agent from last year’s team, Athan Iannucci, re-signed with the organization on Tuesday, agreeing to a one-year contract.
Iannucci, a forward, is entering his seventh season in the National Lacrosse League after appearing in 11 games for the Stealth in 2012. After the Stealth got off to a slow start last season, the team traded transition player Paul Rabil and a first round draft pick to the Edmondton Rush for Iannucci in an effort to bolster a struggling offense.
It took Iannucci a few games, but eventually he did turn out to be the offensive weapon that management thought he would be. The veteran forward tallied 45 points (21 goals, 24 assists) in his 11 games with the Stealth.
“Athan has proven that he is a dominant offensive threat and will be a major factor for us this coming season,” Stealth general manager Doug Locker said. “He is big, strong and always finds a way to get to the net which provides multiple threats up front.
The Stealth open the regular season Saturday, Jan. 5 at home against the defending NLL champion Rochester Knighthawks.
