Boeing logs 747, 767 cancellations

The Boeing Co. dropped orders for five 747-8s and one 767 this week.

The cancellation for 747s was partially offset by a new request for two of the iconic jumbo jets from an undisclosed customer.

That brings Boeing's net order total to 1,052 through Dec. 4, according to the company's website, which was updated Thursday.

Boeing has struggled with orders on the updated 747-8. Last month, Pat Shanahan, senior vice president of airplane programs, noted that the slow cargo market was hurting 747-8 freighter sales. Sales of the 747-8 passenger plane, dubbed the Intercontinental, have been even more difficult to come by for Boeing. The company has said it has several order “campaigns” for the Intercontinental.

Also on Thursday, Boeing said it won a tentative order from Icelandair for 12 737 MAX jets. The order for the updated 737s is valued at $1.2 billion at list prices, though jet makers typically discount from those prices.

Boeing looks likely to meet its 2012 aircraft delivery goal of between 585 and 600 jets. The company delivered 51 jets in November, bringing its 11-month total to 537.
