In a bit of a hurry today, so we go to bullet points:
– Just what the Tips needed, yet another injury to a key player. This time it’s center Kohl Bauml, who suffered a shoulder injury during Tuesday’s game at Portland. X-rays showed no bone damage, but he has his arm in a sling. The extent of the damage won’t be known until he undergoes a scan next week, but he’s definitely out for the weekend.
– Defenseman Nick Walters also remains out as a result of punches taken in a fight last weekend, as the Tips are taking every precaution. However, there’s a chance winger Ryan Harrison could return. Harrison has been out with a torn meniscus in his knee.
– The injuries mean there’s a strong possibility that 16-year-old defenseman Micheal Zipp, who was called up earlier this week, will make his WHL debut this weekend. Also, overage defenseman Landon Oslanski was back practicing at forward today, but it still remains to be seen how he’ll be deployed in this weekend’s games.
– Finally, there was a substantial trade made in the WHL as Kamloops acquired defenseman Joel Edmundson from Moose Jaw today. The way this boils down is that the Blazers basically gave up two first rounders for Edmundson (Halbgewachs was Kamloops’ first rounder from this year’s bantam draft). Edmundson is a good 19-year-old defenseman. But it makes me wonder what kind of return an elite 19-year-old defenseman like Ryan Murray could have netted. Everett has had absolutely no luck this season.
