Front Porch: Arlington’s Santa Run starts Friday

Arlington firefighters, their families and volunteers will escort Santa through Arlington neighborhoods on a decorated fire engine to gather food donations, pass out candy canes and spread holiday cheer Friday through Dec. 16.
The Santa Run is the largest contributing event to the Arlington Food Bank, collecting about 5,000 pounds of food each year. Santa will be on the move from 5-8:30 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, and 5:30-8 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays.

Schedule appointment with a dental student: Students in the dental assisting program at the Sno-Isle Skills Center will get real-life experience in the field through the school's dental clinic, which is open for public appointments through April.
The dental work is done by a licensed dentist; students assist. An appointment for a cleaning, an exam and X-rays costs $75, as does an appointment for fillings.
That's a savings of at least $250, made possible because the patients are helping to educate students, according to Mukilteo School District staff. The Skills Center is at 9001 Airport Road, Everett.
There are a limited number of openings. To schedule an appointment, call 425-348-2220.
Planning a same-sex marriage ceremony? Gay and lesbian couples can marry in Washington starting Sunday.
By approving Referendum 74 last month, voters upheld a law allowing marriage of same-sex couples that the Legislature adopted and Gov. Chris Gregoire signed earlier this year.
