Arlington: Breakfast with Santa at senior center

Santa plans to be on hand for breakfast from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Stillaguamish Senior Center, 18308 Smokey Point Blvd.

The menu includes sausage, scrambled eggs, pancakes, juice and coffee, all for a donation of $5 to senior center exercise programs.

Bring a can of food for the food bank and earn an extra door-prize ticket.

Edmonds: Tree Board has openings

The Edmonds Citizens Tree Board has two openings.

Applicants must live within the city limits. Those with professional or hobbyist interests or experience in urban forestry, horticulture and related fields are preferred.

Open seats include a full four-year term and one that will expire in Dec. 31, 2014, due to a resignation.

Tree Board meetings are the first Thursday of each month.

Lynnwood: School offers parenting class

Hazelwood Elementary School will host a five-week Love &Logic course, 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays Jan. 16-Feb. 13. The parenting program, also used in some schools, including Hazelwood, focuses on positive and practical ways for parents to be more happy and confident as they deal with day-to-day frustrations.

The cost is $50 for individuals, $70 for couples and $10 for those who have taken the course before. Fees include a workbook and handouts. Childcare is $5 per child, per session.

Leah Barham, a parent and former teacher, will lead the class. The class will be held in the library at the school, 3300 204th St. SW, Lynnwood.

Island County: Planning commissioners needed

The Island County Board of Commissioners seeks applicants to serve on the Island County Planning Commission. One position represents all of Whidbey Island south of the greater Oak Harbor area and the second encompasses all of the greater Oak Harbor area)

The terms expire Jan. 2, but the deadline to apply is 4:30 p.m. Jan. 11.

Members serve four-year terms. The Planning Commission generally meets at 9 a.m. the second and fourth Tuesdays in Coupeville. Meetings run two to six hours. Service is unpaid, but travel expenses to and from meetings can be reimbursed.

Sultan: City gets grants for road projects

The city has received two grants from the state Transportation Improvement Board last week.

The city is receiving $527,280 to repair High Avenue, between First and Fourth streets. This street is used mostly by parents who have children in Sultan Middle School.

The second grant is $354,900 for overlay work on Fourth Street from Alder to Fir avenues. Design is scheduled in 2013 with the projects scheduled for 2014.
