Prep boys basketball: King's 53, Sultan 41

SHORELINE -- In a defensive battle that might not have been all that entertaining to watch but showcased two strong teams in the conference, King's took a four-point lead after three quarters and tripled it in the fourth on the way to a 53-41 Cascade Conference victory over Sultan.
"It was just a grinder," said King's head coach Rick Skeen. "We might have had some fans wanting their money back. It was kind of a street fight. But that is what happens when you get two strong teams playing really solid defense."
On offense Brock VandenEkart of Sultan and Caleb Taylor of King's co-led with 15 points.
Keeping VandenEkart in check was a part of the reason his team was able to pull off the victory, according to Skeen.
"(VandenEkart) can score 30 any given night. We have a lot of respect for him," Skeen said.
That respect extended to Sultan's coach and its prospects.
"It was kind of like a playoff game in December. I'd like to think that Sultan is one of the top two teams in the league along with Cedarcrest," Skeen said.
