Fastest woman on ice to race in Everett

OK, ladies. This one’s for you.

One of the fastest females in the sport, Mandy “Wild Child” Brodil Cervantes, will ride her heart out to defend her five world championship titles on Saturday at Comcast Arena’s “Fire and Ice” World Championship competition.

The sport is extreme motorcycle and quad racing. On ice.

As for Cervantes, that’s more titles than any other rider in either pro division. But for Cervantes, it’s not just about shredding competitors, it’s about being a positive role model for other women and girls out there.

Here’s what she says about that in her online biography:

“As I progressed in my racing career I have faced adversity and poor sportsmanship but most importantly I have gained the respect of families as a positive role model for their children,” Cervantes said. “Now as a parent myself, I strive to be the type of person I want my daughter to look to for inspiration.”

Cervantes said she is grateful to be able to race but also to “keep making a positive impression as a female defying the norm.”

Cervantes will be among some of the fastest motorcycle and quad racers from all over the country competing in ice racing’s two professional divisions.

These machines are state-of-the-art Manufacturers World Cup Motorcycles and the Ice Unlimited Outlaw Quads, which are highly modified four-wheel all terrain vehicles.

These machines go fast. They maneuver on the ice because of their razor-sharp steel studded tires. As you can imagine, the terrain is a little more dicey for riders on ice than it is in dirt track racing.

Another added element of danger will be when racers attempt the thrilling “quad ring of fire jump.”

Besides the pro division, select amateur classes will also compete so hometown fans have a chance to see local racers compete, according to press material.

“Fire on Ice World Championship Ice Racing Series” starts at 7 p.m. Saturday at Comcast Arena at Everett, 2000 Hewitt Ave., Everett.

Tickets are $15, $20, and $40 for VIP seating. Children’s tickets are $8. Go online at www.comcastarenaeverett.com or call 866-332-8499. Group discounts and VIP seating are available by calling 425-322-2609. Ticket prices increase $2 on the day of the show.
