Washington Stealth defenseman Chris O’Dougherty has been named the head coach of the lacrosse program at Eastlake High School in Sammamish.
O’Dougherty has managed the defense at Bellevue for the past three seasons under head coach John Baumann and help lead the team to state championship in 2010 and 2012.
O’Dougherty will attempt to improve a program that has made the playoffs the past two seasons, but has yet to have major success. He also joins fellow Stealth player, forward Lewis Ratcliff, as the only Stealth players to take on head coaching jobs at local high schools.
Ratcliff led his Eastside Catholic program to the state championship game in his first year at the helm.
O’Dougherty said he will bring intensity to the Eastlake program.
“We’ll bring an intensity to our play and keep it fresh,” he said. “Keep it exciting every day of practice for our guys.”
Lacrosse is a club sport and not affiliated with the WIAA at this time. Over 4,000 student-athletes representing about 200 high schools in the state play lacrosse.
