Everett’s Lowell neighborhood makes a difference
The Lowell Make a Difference Day on Oct. 27 resulted in a big clean-up operation.
Trash was picked up along the streets and in some yards in the neighborhood.
Gail Chism initiated the event and was assisted by Wendy McClure in the city’s Office of Neighborhoods. Sheri Lungstrom served as the on-site facilitator. Laurie Schiffman served as the contact person for those needing assistance.
Contributions came from Rubatino Refuse Removal, Acrowood Corp., the city parks and public works departments, Everett Community College, YMCA, Claremont Starbucks and Fred Meyer, which donated 50 daffodil bulbs.
Everett volunteer honored by state DNR
Bob Langley of Everett has been honored by the state Department of Natural Resources for his volunteer work.
Langley volunteers hundreds of hours a year on various DNR landscapes across the state, including the Capitol State Forest, Tahuya State Forest and Walker Valley. His efforts include helping to reroute trails to protect streams, reopening trails after storms and participating in the annual gravel haul-in to maintain trails.
Langley’s leadership, humor, concern for the environment and attitude inspire children and adults alike, DNR officials said.
Trinity Lutheran College album supports homeless shelter
A group of students, staff and alumni of Trinity Lutheran College have recorded a Christmas album to raise money for the Interfaith Family Homeless Shelter in Everett.
The albums are for sale for $5 at Major League Pizza, Cafe Zippy and Silver Cup Coffee in Everett. The entire $5 goes to the shelter.
The album can be purchased online at TLC.edu/Xmas or on iTunes.
The songs recorded include “In the Bleak Midwinter,” “O Come, O Come Emmanuel,” “Away in a Manger,”
“Silent Night,” “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas” and “Joy to the World.”
One of the Trinity students who sang on the album, freshman Katrine Numme, is from Norway. Her rendition of “Away in a Manger” is in Norwegian.
“It was a lot of fun working on the album. We didn’t exactly know what we would get, but we’re really excited with the music that came out of the project. It just seemed like a great project for a local nonprofit that meets an important need in our community,” said Tucker FitzGerald, visual communication professor at Trinity Lutheran College.

Immaculate school’s students contribute
Eighth graders in the Acts of Random Kindness club at Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Everett have made 25 baby blankets from donated fleece for Pregnancy Aid, a nonprofit organization that helps pregnant women in the greater Everett area.
The students included Bryan Bader, Will Doud, Justin Lewandowski, Khloe Wilfley, Jordan Lindgren and Mikaela Keator, Bennett Duffy, Paul Schireman, Loren Anderson, Logan Eugenio, Hayden Smith, Harrison Lindgren, Edward Dufresne, Ava Schmetzer and Joe Sisneros.
