The Washington Stealth made nine cuts and also dealt goaltender Kevin Croswell to the Philadelphia Wings on Tuesday, two days before the 23-man final roster is due to the offices of the National Lacrosse League.
Among the cuts was veteran forward Jeff Zywicki, who helped lead the Stealth to the 2010 NLL championship in the team’s first season in Everett.
“Re-tooling our offense for the future is a challenging process,” Stealth general manager Doug Locker said in a press release. “Days like this are obviously difficult. We are thankful for all Jeff has given to this organization and wish him the best with other opportunities that come up this season and in the future.”
Also among the nine released by the team were veteran forward Martin Cummings and goalkeeper Chris Seidel.
The other six players released by the team were forwards Peter Jacobs, Jerome Thompson, Mark Negrin, transition players T.J. Cowx and Ryan Johnson and defenseman Ben McCullough.
In a separate move on Tuesday morning, the Stealth traded goalkeeper Kevin Croswell to the Philadelphia Wings for a third-round pick in the 2013 NLL entry draft. Croswell was signed as a free agent by the team in 2012 and posted a 1-2 record with a 9.60 goals against average and a .789 save percentage last season while filling in for injured starting goalkeeper Tyler Richards.
