Sunday film series: Everett Public Library brings back its independent film series at 2 p.m. Sundays in the Main Library auditorium, 2702 Hoyt Ave., Everett. Films are free; www.epls.org/calendar or 425-257-8000.
"The Piano in a Factory": Jan. 13. When Chen's estranged wife reappears asking for a divorce and custody of their daughter, the musician girl decides she will live with whoever can provide her with a piano (from the program).
"Queen of Hearts": Feb. 10. Thirty-something Adele is devastated after a painful breakup. With no close friends or family, her distant cousin, Rachel, reluctantly takes her in and graciously attempts to salvage Adele's personal and professional lives.
"Before Your Eyes": March 10. 10-year-old Gulistan and her brother Firat live in the heart of Turkish Kurdistan. Tragedy strikes when their parents are shot down by paramilitary gunmen before their very eyes.
"King of Devil's Island": April 14. This true story of the infamous Bastoy Boys Home correctional facility in Norway, begins with the arrival of 17-year-old Erling, a rumored murderer.
"Amador": May 19. Marcela, a young immigrant with financial troubles, finds a summer job looking after Amador, a bed-ridden elderly man whose family is away.
Live from The Met: The Metropolitan Opera's 2012-2013 series is being transmitted live on the screen at Stanwood Cinemas. The cinema is one of the sites in the Pacific Northwest broadcasting the series of performances of "The Met: Live in HD." Screenings continue through April. Ticket are $22 for adults; $20 for seniors; and $18 for children (11 and under). Tickets can be purchased at the box office or online: www.farawayentertainment.com.
Berlioz's "Les Troyens": 9 a.m. Jan. 5. In Berlioz's vast epic, Deborah Voigt, Susan Graham, Marcello Giordani and Dwayne Croft lead the cast, portraying characters from the Trojan War. Met Principal Conductor Fabio Luisi marshals the large-scale musical forces.
Donizetti's "Maria Stuarda": 9:55 a.m. Jan. 19. Mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato takes on the virtuosic bel canto role of the doomed Mary, Queen of Scots. The second opera of Donizetti's Tudor trilogy explores regal characters at fateful moments of their lives. Elza van den Heever sings Elizabeth I.
