Prep girls basketball: Meadowdale 55, Justin Siena 39

SAN DIEGO -- Meadowdale jumped to a 17-8 first-quarter lead en route to winning its opening game at the Surf 'n Slam Tournament.

Meadowdale assistant coach Dan Rauch said the Mavericks' press caused several turnovers in the first quarter, allowing the Mavs to build their nine-point advantage.

Meadowdale (4-4) extended its lead to 41-28 by the end of the third quarter.

Alyssa Reuble scored 12 points and Ndey Sonko added 11 for the Mavericks, who play Lynden at 4:15 p.m. Friday.
