Seahawks CB Walter Thurmond indicates on Twitter that his season is over
Cornerback Walter Thurmond, who has missed two games with a hamstring injury, has been ruled out for Sunday's game. And based off of his Twitter account, Thurmond will be out for more than just that game.
Assuming what Thurmond Tweeted is accurate, this is the latest setback for the talented, yet injury-plagued corner. Thurmond suffered a serious knee injury as a senior at Oregon, causing his draft stock to slip, but he ended up in Seattle as a fourth-round pick. Thurmond made it back from that injury to play most of his rookie season, then when he stepped into a starting role in 2011 after an injury to Marcus Trufant, Thurmond suffered a broken leg in a loss to Cleveland. He had a setback last spring while rehabbing that injury, requiring another surgery, and that caused him to miss much of this season. With Brandon Browner suspended, Thurmond found himself back in the starting lineup three weeks ago, only to again suffer an injury.
This news isn't entirely shocking given that Carroll sounded less than optimistic about getting Thurmond back for next week's playoff game.
"It hasn't been as smooth as we would like," Carroll said. "He's really been pushing, but he just hasn't been able to get out of the discomfort on it. With a hamstring you've got to come back feeling nothing. You can't be nursing it or you're too vulnerable. He's still feeling and that's not a good sign for this week obviously, and it's going to be hard for him to get back next week too I would think."
The team didn't announce a roster move, but it wouldn't be surprising to see Thurmond placed on injured reserve Saturday. That wouldn't necessarily mean this is a major injury, but this late in the season, it is hard for a team to justify a roster spot in the playoffs for a player who is going to miss a game or two.
