LYNNWOOD -- A commemorative World War II map mounted on a plaque at Veterans Park in Lynnwood was accidentally run over by a driver Friday, according to Lynnwood police.

A 72-year-old Lynnwood man put his pickup truck in reverse instead of forward and backed over the map in the 2:30 p.m. accident, Lynnwood police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions said. The man was not cited for the incident, she said.

The mini-park is located at the south end of the parking lot of the Lynnwood Library at 19200 44th Ave. W.

The map was one of four historical war maps installed around 2005 as part of an Eagle Scout project, said Martin Spani, commander of VFW Post 1040.

He estimated it will cost about $2,000 to replace the map.
