For auld lang syne, my dear

We'll drink a cup of kindness yet: If you're celebrating the new year with a glass of something stronger than eggnog you've likely noticed that the switch from state liquor stores to private sales hasn't brought about the hoped-for lower prices.

It makes it tough to drown your sorrows when you can't even afford to get them damp.

--

What's a lang syne, anyway? If you're looking for New Year's Eve entertainment on TV, you might want to check out ABC's "New Year's Rockin' Eve Celebrates Dick Clark." The show will include clips of the late entertainer before the show's hosts send viewers to New York's Time Square to watch the ball drop.

Or you can tune into C-Span to watch angry taxpayers, as they count down from 10, push members of Congress down the Capitol steps as the economy goes over the "fiscal cliff."

--

Auld acquaintances we'd like to forget: With Senate leaders Harry Reid, D-Tweedledum, and Mitch McConnell, R-Tweedledee, still at odds over a deal to avoid the fiscal cliff's automatic tax increases and budget cuts at midnight tonight, McConnell called on Vice President Joe Biden, D-Gaffe, to join negotiations and break the impasse.

We'd like to thank Sen. McConnell for writing The Buzz's final punch line of the year.

See you all at the bottom.
