50 years ago (1963)

Dr. Eldon Schalka was to be installed a president of the Everett Kiwanis Club. Other officers were Jack Gebert, vice president, Phil Blodgett, secretary, and Ralph McLeod, treasurer. Directors were R. Emerson Elder, Maury Jones, Lowell Knutson, Dave Parton, Dick, Sanman, Bob Smith, and Mark Whitman.

Bill Gunderson, son of Dr. and Mrs. Harold J. Gunderson, left today for Amherst, Mass., for his final training before flying to Africa with the Peace Corps. His assignment was in the Ivory Coast, French West Africa, where he would serve principally as the swimming coach for the national team for two years.

25 years ago (1988)

Gary Weikel, executive administrator for Snohomish County Executive Willis Tucker, described work being done on Tucker's third-floor suite at the county administration building as routine upkeep that included new paint, carpeting and four chairs.

Bonanza was having a 50 percent off sale this week only in the stores at 2615 Colby, and in Monroe and Stanwood. New owners needed room for new departments. Prices were slashed to 75% off on all remaining greeting cards, party goods, invitations, incense, bows, ribbon and crepe paper.
