"The Little Mermaid Jr.": Sometimes going against all odds for the chance to become what you want is worth all the challenge and risk.

At least, that's what mermaid Ariel believes.

In this musical stage adaptation of the Disney animated film, "The Little Mermaid," Ariel is determined to leave her mermaid life behind for a life above the water.

But to live on land forever, Ariel must team up with an evil witch who has her fate in her hands and go up against the king.

While Ariel is trying to secure her life in a world on land, she is also trying to find love with a human prince.

The story is based on the original fairy tale by Hans Christian Andersen.

"The Little Mermaid Jr." has lyrics by Howard Ashman and Glenn Slater and music by Alan Menken. It's directed and choreographed by Jessica Low with musical direction by Karissa Bryant.

"The Little Mermaid Jr" opens at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 18 and runs through Jan. 27 at Village Theatre's Second Stage, 2730 Wetmore Ave., Everett.

Tickets are $14 general, $12 for seniors and youth. Call 425-257-8600 or go to www.villagetheatre.org.
