Plants of Merit is branching out. Every other week Sandy Schumacher will present plants from the three major public gardens in Snohomish County: Evergreen Arboretum & Gardens in Everett, Jennings Memorial Park in Marysville and McCollum Park in Everett.
WHAT: Tsuga Canadensis Moon Frost is a dwarf conifer also known as Canadian hemlock.
It's a real standout in the winter garden as its new growth emerges white and resembles frost. It is native to Eastern Canada, Maine and Wisconsin, and south to Georgia and Alabama.
SUN OR SHADE: This conifer requires full to part shade and protection from afternoon sun
SIZE: In 10 years, Moon Frost will reach 3 feet in height and 4 feet in width. It rarely grows beyond 4-feet tall except in the wild over long periods of time.
