50 years ago (1963)
George Moore, superintendent of Snohomish School District for the past 14 years, announced his retirement plans. He had been with the district since 1928, with four years off as superintendent at Stanwood. Hal Moe, now high school and assistant superintendent would likely be Moe's successor.
The British ship Eastern Sakura was docked at the old Everett shipyard site as Everett longshoremen loaded logs aboard the vessel using two cranes on the dock. The longshoreman, aiming for a world record, hoped to load five million board feet of logs during the next 10 to 14 days.
25 years ago (1988)
Everett Mutual Savings Bank was having an open house Jan. 4, 5 and 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The main office was downtown. Other branches were Everett-Madison, Everett-Silver Lake, Lake Stevens, Marysville, Arlington, Snohomish and Monroe.
Among the Everett area streets noted on the Traffic Tip Sheet were S. Third Avenue where a widening was taking place, Fourth Avenue W. north of Mariner High School for repaving, and 112th near Silver Lake where both widening and repaving were taking place.
