While nothing official has come from the team, there have been reports out for a while that Sounders FC forward Fredy Montero, the franchise’s career leader in goals, is heading to Colombia to play for Millonarios, and now Montero is saying thank you and goodbye via Twitter.
A note to you all. THANK YOU ….. twitter.com/Goleador17/sta…— Fredy Montero (@Goleador17) January 9, 2013
Again, nothing official yet, but an announcement seems like a formality at this point.
UPDATE
Outspoken Portland Timbers owner Merritt Paulson said via Twitter that he is sad to see Montero, a hated man in Portland, leave the Sounders.
I, for one, am very disappointed Montero is leaving the Sounders. He was a great villain for us. 100% sure that will be replaced though…— Merritt Paulson (@MerrittPaulson) January 9, 2013
Love him or hate him, give the guy credit for stepping up against the Timbers more often than not.I won’t miss that…— Merritt Paulson (@MerrittPaulson) January 9, 2013
