Prep wrestling: Stanwood 57, Everett 21

STANWOOD— 132-pounder Kane Ayling, continuing to overcome injury, defeated Everett’s Mike Yadon 7-6 to pace Stanwood to a 57-21 victory to remain undefeated in the Wesco 3A North.

Ayling’s performance was grouped together by another great showing by the young Spartans’ squad.

“Ayling is a kid that is just growing from week-to-week,” said Stanwood head coach Ray Mather. “He’s fought through a hyderextended elbow (this season). But he plugged out a win, and I was extremely proud.”

Mather’s undefeated Spartans are a team that consists of five sophomores, three juniors and just four seniors.

“We’ve got four seniors that are leading by example,” said Mather. “We (as a team) have a good string of quality wrestlers that pushes each other everyday. I’m really proud of how we’ve progressed.”

Other highlights for the match included the Stanwood’s, West Weinert (113-pounds) pinning Orlando Villa in 1:18 to remain undefeated on the season. Seagulls’ 138-pounder Jessie Lopez — a state champion last year in the 132-pound division— defeated Nathaniel Zinkand by decision 9-3.
