Mariners invite 18-non-roster players to camp

Six of the Seattle Mariners' top 10 minor-league prospects, including former Everett AquaSox catcher Mike Zunino, are among the 18 non-roster players the team has invited to its major-league spring training.

Seattle general manager Jack Zduriencik announced the list Friday.

In addition to Zunino, the Mariners' first-round pick in the 2012 draft, the group includes right-handed pitcher Taijuan Walker, infielder Stefen Romero, infielder Brad Miller, infielder Nick Franklin and left-handed pitcher James Paxton.

Zunino, (No. 1), Walker (No. 2), Paxton (No. 4), Franklin (No. 5), Romero (No. 8) and Miller (No. 9) are ranked among the Mariners' top 10 prospects by Baseball America.

The Mariners' spring-training roster stands at 58 players (40 roster, 18 non-roster), including 30 pitchers (11 non-roster), five catchers (three non-roster), 15 infielders (four non-roster) and eight outfielders (0 non-roster).

Pitchers and catchers report to spring training in Peoria, Ariz., on Feb. 12 and hold their first workout Feb. 13. Position players are scheduled to report for physicals Feb. 15. The first full-squad workout is set for Feb. 16.
